CBC comments:There were many smudge cells on the submitted slides. This may have altered the differential
and white blood count. For best results, make smears as soon as possible after sample
acquisition.
The cell distribution was uneven on the provided smears. This may have affected the CBC
results.
Images from the blood smear was reviewed by Nicole Stacy, DVM, DrMedVet, DACVP.
COMMENT (based on image review): Occasional (2/100 RBC) hemoparasites noted with
morphology suggestive of Hemoproteus spp.; however, the presence of Plasmodium spp.
cannot be ruled out based on morphologic features alone; recommend PCR for further
diagnostic information, if clinically indicated.

Electrophoresis Comments
The beta globulins are increased and reflective of acute inflammation. Moderate to marked increases
in this fraction can be observed with nephritis, hepatitis, dermatitis, and mycotic infection. Increases
may also be observed with sarcocystosis and chronic chlamydiosis as well as mycobacteriosis.
Specific beta globulin proteins which often manifest as a monoclonal appearing peak in this fraction
are also increased in egg laying birds. Followup EPH may have prognostic value in this case.
